COUNTERFEIT PARTS

According to various Government agencies and industry sources, counterfeiting is estimated to cost the industry $12 billion in lost sales annually and as many as 200,000 lost jobs. Customers expect that parts bearing the Ford trademark have been tested to ensure a high level of quality and durability. Counterfeit parts are not designed, engineered and tested to meet the same quality standards as Ford OEM parts.

PITMAN ARMS

The pitman arm is an integral component inside a vehicle's steering and suspension systems providing vehicle control.

Counterfeit Pitman Arms are a safety concern, they are suspect to fatigue failures which can potentially cause loss of steering control.

• Counterfeit Pitman Arms are identified by:

– “Food” Logo

– Raised p/n: 22-604-06-1

"Food" Counterfeit pitman arms do not meet the minimum OEM fatigue test requirements.

FUEL FILTERS

Fuel filters prevent premature engine wear and failure by removing impurities from your fuel such as carbon, sand, dirt and metal.

Counterfeit Fuel Filters may have poor filtering elements that can be made from old rags, perforated food cans, and other materials. This could cause engine problems to your vehicle such as allowing sediments and particulates to pass through the fuel supply causing your engine to hesitate, stall, or even shutdown.

BRAKES

Brake pads apply friction to both sides of the top brake disc/rotor enabling your vehicle to stop.

Counterfeit Brakes often have poor quality steel backing plates and weak or no shim bonding to the backplate. Counterfeit Brake Pads are often made from inferior products like compressed wood chips and sawdust.

The counterfeit pad clearly has paint that is chipping and bubbling. The OEM pad utilizes powder coat which is much more durable. Also note the painted caliper clip on the counterfeit. The poor paint adhesion can lead to backplate corrosion which leads to customer dissatisfaction.

The counterfeit back plate was produced from a stamping process while the OEM part has a blanked part. The edge rollover of the ear can lead to the pad binding in the caliper causing the pad to wear and increasing brake drag hence reducing fuel economy.

WINDSHIELDS

Counterfeit Windshields can fit poorly causing wind noise, leakage, and appearance problems. They are often made without safety shatterproof glass which may cause injury.

VEHICLE COMMUNICATION MODULE (VCM)

The vehicle communication module (VCM) is a high performance vehicle serial communications gateway.

Ford has investigated the sale of non-genuine Vehicle Communication Modules (VCM), presented and packaged
as Rotunda Original Equipment VCMs, available through various Internet channels (e-commerce, auction sites, etc.)

The non-genuine VCM units have not been tested to the same Ford VCM OE standards for safety, quality, design, specifications, completeness or other performance characteristics prior to sale.

The Rotunda (OEM) VCM does not contain any external markings, stickers, or decals indicating production dates. Some of the non-genuine units have these indicators and in a foreign language.
